Natural and cultural heritage

Milieukontakt has assisted and developed together with NGOs green agenda processes. Green Agenda starts out with local natural and cultural values, and focuses on identifying win-win scenarios for local sustainable development using the identified values. Quite naturally, sustainable tourism, natural and cultural heritage came up as possible directions for future work. Some of the activities supported were: wooden signs for directions to the villages (in Dajci commune), to natural and cultural monuments (in Voskopoja commune), educational information tables for tourist (in Preza Commune).

Recently Milieukontakt Albania is executing a consultancy agreement for the project “The Vjosa / Aoos river eco-museum; promotion and protection of the natural and cultural heritage of the Vjosa / Aoos river basin”. The aim is to conduct desktop and on site research to make an analysis of the approach and collect information for the thematic routes, and any other information needed in order to develop a transboundary living eco-museum, with a focus on the natural and cultural heritage of the Vjosa/Aoos river basin, including productive, environmental and socio-cultural aspects.

Targeted research will enable building a body of knowledge on the common natural and cultural heritage of the two countries around the Vjosa /Aoos river basin and sustainable management regimes. It will also lead to the identification of significant heritage sites and development of route maps. Essential to the development of these routes is the open dialogue with the local population and interlinking of their natural and cultural values.
