The project aims to empower communities in six major municipalities of the country: Tirana, Durrës, Elbasan, Korçë, Fier, and Shkodër by actively engaging them in the alternative monitoring of air quality and noise levels, as well as advocating for more effective environmental policies at both local and national levels. Through the use of simplified methodologies and specialized equipment for measuring air
pollution and noise levels, citizens and local activists will be involved in the data collection process and public awareness. The collected data will be processed and regularly published on
the platform www.greenlungs.al, enabling open and transparent access for experts, policymakers, and citizens.
The specific objectives of the project include:
- Reviewing and providing recommendations on local documents and national policies related to air quality, noise levels, and their impact on health.
- Enhancing the monitoring and advocacy capacities of partner organizations within the network regarding urban air quality and community involvement.
- Raising public awareness for a better quality of life in our communities through awareness campaigns.
Expected results include:
- Alternative monitoring of 5 parameters (PM5, PM10, CO2, NO2, CO) for air quality in the 6 main municipalities and regular updates to the www.greenlungs.al platform.
- Visual maps of air pollution and noise levels in the 6 municipalities. Organization of awareness meetings and activities with communities, youth, and environmental CSOs.
